Methodology
Our Italian surname data
Ciao Genealogy uses a structured surname distribution database to show where Italian surnames appear by town, province and region. The data is a research starting point, not a substitute for original civil or parish records.
What the data shows
Public surname pages summarize counts, towns, regions, variants and distribution maps where enough data is available.
What it does not prove
A surname cluster can suggest where to search, but family relationships must be verified through original records.
How to use it
Start from a surname, identify likely towns, then check civil, parish and archive records for evidence.
Data license and permitted use
The public pages are provided for personal genealogy research and search engine discovery. Bulk extraction, scraping, republication, commercial reuse and use in competing databases are not permitted.
