Acceptance of these terms

By accessing or using this website, you agree to these Terms of Use and Data License. If you do not agree, do not use the website, its data, pages, maps, search tools or generated content.

Data license

The surname distribution database, data structure, compilations, rankings, derived statistics, maps, page templates, explanatory text and visual presentations made available on Ciao Genealogy are proprietary assets of Ciao Genealogy and/or Laboratori Digitali, except where third-party materials are expressly identified.

Individual public facts may not be owned in isolation, but the selection, verification, organization, enrichment, presentation and database compilation are protected by copyright, database rights and other applicable laws. No ownership or broad reuse license is granted unless stated in writing.

Permitted use

You may use the public pages for personal, non-commercial genealogy research, family history exploration and occasional citation of individual pages, provided that you link back to the original Ciao Genealogy page and do not reproduce substantial portions of the database or page content.

Legitimate search engine crawlers may access indexable pages in accordance with robots.txt, technical controls and normal search engine behavior.

Prohibited use

You may not scrape, crawl, spider, harvest, extract, copy, cache, download in bulk, mirror, republish, sell, license, redistribute, train a competing dataset, build a competing service, or otherwise exploit the website, data, maps, generated pages or search results without prior written permission.

You may not use bots, scripts, browser automation, reverse engineering, hidden endpoints, sitemap harvesting, rate-limit bypassing, rotating proxies or similar methods to collect data from the website.

You may not remove attribution, conceal the source of copied material, or combine Ciao Genealogy data with other datasets in a way that enables republication, resale or reconstruction of a substantial part of the database.

Commercial and professional use

Commercial use, professional genealogy use, media use, database use, API use, academic bulk use and any reuse beyond occasional personal consultation require prior written permission from Laboratori Digitali.

No automated access

Automated access is allowed only when expressly authorized in writing or when performed by recognized search engines within normal indexing limits. Ciao Genealogy may monitor traffic, rate-limit requests, block suspicious access, protect endpoints and take technical or legal action against unauthorized extraction.

Research disclaimer

Surname distribution data is a research clue, not proof of ancestry, identity, citizenship eligibility or family relationships. Genealogical conclusions must be verified with original civil, parish, archival or family records. The site is provided as is and without warranties of completeness, accuracy or availability.

Third-party materials

Map tiles, open-source libraries, WordPress components and other third-party materials remain subject to their own licenses and terms. Nothing in this page changes those third-party rights.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the website, data products and services evolve. The version published on this page applies from the date shown above.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Italy, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection rules that may apply in your country of residence.
