Di Pasquale Surname in Italy

Di Pasquale is a patronymic surname built from the given name Pasquale, with Di marking belonging to, or descent from, an ancestor named Pasquale. The name is now especially widespread in central and southern Italy, with a particularly strong concentration in Sicily, and important presence in Abruzzo, Lazio, Molise, Campania, Puglia and Basilicata. Several related branches and spelling variants belong to the same naming family: Di Pascale, typical of the Naples area and also found in Rome; Di Pasquali, with branches in Subiaco, Rome and the Agrigento area; and Dipasquale, recorded in the provinces of Foggia and Ragusa. The De- forms, including De Pasquale, De Pascale, De Pascalis, De Pascali, De Pasqual, De Pasqualin, De Pasqualis and De Pasquali, are part of the same wider group, though their local histories differ. The underlying surname Pasquale, in older forms such as Pascali, Pascale and Paschalis, is also documented in northern Italy, where some families bearing these names were historically linked to nobility. In southern Italy, some lines may also reflect Iberian influence from Pascual or Pasqual.
