Sacchi Surname in Italy

The surname Sacchi is predominantly found in the provinces of Alessandria, Pavia, Milan, Novara, Varese, and Lecco, with notable clusters in Mantua and Modena, as well as across northern and central Italy. Related forms include Sacchetti, primarily in central-northern Italy; the very rare Sacchinelli, with a small presence in Vibo Valentia; Sacchini, occurring in several areas including Genoa, the Apennines of Parma and Reggio Emilia, Tuscany, Romagna, Pesaro region, the area between Piceno and Teramo, and Rome; Sacchino, almost unique; Sacco, which is widespread throughout Italy; Saccon, typical of Veneto with strong presence in Treviso and Venice provinces; Saccone, found in Liguria, Campania, Rome, Foggia, and southeastern Sicily; and Sacconi, with groups in Padua, Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio, and Rome. These surnames may have originated as diminutive or truncated forms of the given name Isacco — as evidenced by the historical figure Saccone Tarlati in 14th-century Florence — or as nicknames linked to the trade of sack making or handling.
