Tasca Surname in Italy

The surname Tasca has several branches in Italy, with established nuclei in the Alessandria area, in Milan and Bergamo, in the Vicenza, Padua, Treviso and Venice areas, in south-central Lazio, in the Bari area, and in Sicily, especially in the provinces of Caltanissetta, Ragusa, Catania and Messina. The recorded variants help distinguish the different lines: Taschi is almost unique and concentrated in central-northern Italy; Taschini has branches in Bergamo and Villa d’Almè in the Bergamo area, a small presence in the Reggio Emilia area, another smaller one between Pistoia and Prato, occurrences in the Perugia area and around Città di Castello, as well as in the Viterbo area and in Rome; Tasco has a Puglian branch between Brindisi, Salve and San Giorgio Ionico, and a very small presence in Catania; Tascone is found in San Salvo in the Chieti area, with minor nuclei in the Naples area and in Sicily, at Gela, Castell’Umberto and Sciara; Tasconi is almost unique and may result from altered transcription of the previous form. The surname is generally traced back to the Latin personal name of barbaric origin Tasco, Tasconis, or to its Latinized form Tascus, a name attested in a passage by Pliny the Younger.
