Origin notes

Origin and meaning

Venturini is a patronymic surname formed from the medieval personal name Ventura and, in many cases, probably from Bonaventura by aphesis and later familiar or hypocoristic development. The underlying name had an auspicious meaning, roughly “good fortune.” Medieval records show early use of Ventura in Lombardy and Liguria, and from this personal-name base came several related surnames. Venturini is historically concentrated in central and northern Italy, especially in Lombardy, Tuscany and Veneto. In Friuli, the surname is also linked to families named Venturinus or Vinturinus who arrived from Lombardy around the late 13th and early 14th centuries with Patriarch Raimondo della Torre of Aquileia; their descendants were often identified as sons of Venturini or simply as Venturini. One Friulian branch gave rise to the surname Lepore in Gemona del Friuli.
